About the role
The Wilderness Skills Trainer prepares cadets to live effectively out of a backpack in diverse environments, teaching them to thrive without modern facilities. This role involves delivering structured training sessions and collaborating with other instructors to ensure comprehensive wilderness education.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver summer backpacking and camping instruction.
- Teach winter wilderness travel and camping techniques.
- Introduce core survival skills such as foraging, fire‑starting without matches, emergency shelter construction, and safe water sourcing.
- Provide navigation, route‑finding, terrain assessment, and safety training.
- Partner with fellow trainers for multi‑disciplinary programs and attend planning meetings to contribute expertise.
Required profile

- Strong commitment to the academy’s culture and mission.
- Proven experience in outdoor living and wilderness skill instruction.
- Ability to design experiential training sessions and plan events.
