SVP, Chief Risk Officer – Europe

About the role

At Mastercard, risk management is fundamental to achieving strategic objectives and maintaining trust. The SVP, Chief Risk Officer, Mastercard Europe is a senior leadership role within the Risk organization, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Risk Management and Global Markets Risk Oversight. The role provides independent second‑line oversight of Mastercard Europe’s risk profile, governance framework, risk culture and control environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own and continuously enhance the Europe Enterprise Risk Management Framework, aligning it with global policies and maintaining the risk taxonomy.
• Develop and maintain the Europe Risk Appetite Statement, monitor adherence, and provide regular reporting to executive management and the Board.
• Provide independent oversight and challenge of business activities, assess control effectiveness, and conduct thematic reviews and assurance activities.
• Serve as the primary risk representative to regulators, support examinations, and ensure compliance with regulatory expectations.
• Act as a trusted advisor on strategic initiatives, emerging risks, stress‑testing, and transformation projects.
• Promote a proactive risk‑aware culture, deliver training, and lead a high‑performing risk organization.

Required profile

• Senior executive leadership experience within a complex, highly regulated organization.
• Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders while maintaining strong business partnerships.
• Extensive experience presenting to Boards, Board Risk Committees, and executive leadership teams.
• Deep expertise in enterprise risk management frameworks, governance, and three‑lines‑of‑defense models.
• Significant experience in risk management within financial services, payments, banking, or fintech.
• Strong understanding of commercial, operational, technology, cyber, and strategic risk, as well as regulatory expectations.
