Standards Engineering Officer – NATO International Staff

About the role

The NATO International Staff is creating a pool of qualified candidates for three Standards Engineering Officer positions. The posts are pending budget approval and will be allocated to either the Defence Industry, Innovation and Armaments (D2IA) Division or the Cyber and Digital Transformation (CDT) Division after a single selection process.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and harmonise engineering standards supporting NATO defence and cyber capabilities.
• Collaborate with internal divisions, NATO Standardization Office, NATO Science & Technology Organization and external industry partners.
• Provide technical guidance for standard‑based projects in the defence industry and digital transformation initiatives.
• Contribute to the preparation of standardisation documents, reports and briefings for senior NATO leadership.

Required profile

• Officer‑level qualification (NATO Grade G17‑G20) with a relevant engineering or technical degree.
• Proven experience in standards development or implementation within defence, aerospace or cyber domains.
• Ability to work in a multinational, multilingual environment and interact with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with a focus on collaborative problem‑solving.
