Solutions Architect – Custom Applications (Hybrid, Brussels)

About the role

ATOS is seeking a Solutions Architect to join the Flemish Government project team in Brussels. The role focuses on designing and delivering custom‑built backend and frontend applications, working closely with development teams and public‑sector stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse business and functional requirements and translate them into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Advise customers on solution options, define realistic implementation approaches and negotiate trade‑offs between scope, cost, quality and time.
• Design and document solution architectures covering application, integration and deployment aspects.
• Collaborate with developers, project teams and stakeholders, providing guidance and coaching where needed.
• Ensure non‑functional requirements such as performance, availability, security and maintainability are addressed.
• Stay up‑to‑date with relevant technologies and promote best practices in agile and DevOps environments.

Required profile

• Hands‑on solution architect or senior engineer with experience in complex application landscapes.
• Comfortable working close to development teams and delivering projects in a public‑sector context.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with stakeholders.

Required skills

• Middleware, API gateways and API management.
• Micro‑services, containers and Kubernetes.
• Public, private or hybrid cloud solutions.
• Architecture frameworks and modelling (TOGAF, ArchiMate, UML).
• Agile and DevOps practices (Scrum, SAFe, CI/CD tooling).
• Security concepts – authentication, authorization, logging, confidentiality.
