Software Engineer II – Embedded Systems & Firmware

About the role

Google is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Core security team, focusing on embedded systems and firmware. You will help design, develop, and secure the low‑level software that powers Google’s custom silicon and consumer devices.

Key responsibilities

• Write and maintain product or system development code for embedded platforms.
• Review peer code, ensuring adherence to style, testability, efficiency and security best practices.
• Contribute to documentation and educational content, updating it as products evolve.
• Triage, debug, and resolve system issues, analyzing impacts on hardware, network or security layers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 1 year of software development experience in languages such as Python, C, C++, Java or JavaScript.
• Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Preferred experience with embedded operating systems, C/C++ or Rust programming, and cryptographic algorithm implementation or testing.
