Senior Legal Counsel – Central EMEA

About the role

As a Senior Legal Counsel for Central EMEA you will provide pragmatic legal advice to the Packaging, Paper and Recycling businesses across D‑A‑CH and Benelux. You will work within a regional legal team, collaborating closely with Group Legal and business units to ensure consistent, commercial‑focused support.

Key responsibilities

• Advise Managing Directors and senior management on strategic and operational legal matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex customer, supplier and technology agreements.
• Standardise contracting processes using Group Legal templates, guidelines and training programmes.
• Identify material legal, regulatory and compliance risks and propose mitigation measures.
• Support corporate law, governance, intra‑group arrangements and regulatory requirements.
• Manage disputes and regulatory proceedings, coordinating external counsel when needed.
• Provide legal support for M&A, integration, transformation and other international projects.
• Collaborate on incorporating AI‑enabled platforms into legal and business functions.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Germany, Austria, Belgium or the Netherlands (or equivalent qualification).
• Minimum eight years of relevant experience, preferably in an international corporation or leading commercial law firm.
• Strong knowledge of contract, commercial, corporate law, governance and compliance.
• Proven experience with complex cross‑border agreements, disputes and transactions.
• Excellent commercial judgement and ability to translate legal issues into clear recommendations.
• Fluent English and strong German or Dutch; additional languages are a plus.
• Autonomous, solution‑focused, integrity‑driven and willing to travel regularly across Central EMEA.
