Senior IT System Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior IT System Engineer to support high‑availability IT environments used in train, tram and metro infrastructure for a railway infrastructure client. The role involves 2nd‑line system support, incident management, updates, patches and continuous improvement of the infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, install and configure hardware and software environments.
• Handle incidents, failures and changes, providing 2nd‑line support and participating in on‑call rotations.
• Perform testing, debugging, updates and patches.
• Support go‑live and hyper‑care periods, including occasional out‑of‑hours work.
• Document technical procedures and keep documentation up to date.

Required profile

• Strong experience in IT infrastructure and system engineering.
• Very good knowledge of Linux (CentOS/RedHat).
• Scripting skills in Bash and/or Python.
• Extensive experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter and vMotion.
• Background in high‑availability production environments.
• Basic network knowledge (router, switch, VPN, firewall).
• Fluent in Dutch and French, with strong English proficiency.
