Security Engineer (Payments Infrastructure)

About the role

This hands‑on Security Engineer position is based in Belgium and sits at the core of a fast‑scaling payments infrastructure. You will work closely with engineering, cloud and infrastructure teams to embed security throughout the product lifecycle and help shape the long‑term security function.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct security reviews and threat‑modeling for new product features and system designs, delivering actionable recommendations.
• Own end‑to‑end security initiatives from design through implementation and rollout.
• Build and maintain internal security tooling and automation to streamline reviews, detection and remediation.
• Coordinate penetration‑testing activities and manage vulnerability tracking and resolution.
• Support compliance programs such as SOC 2 and PCI DSS, including evidence collection and audit preparation.
• Contribute to the Application Security roadmap, covering cloud security, supply‑chain security, AI‑related risks and ASPM.
• Perform proactive security research and incident investigations to improve system resilience.
• Partner with Cloud, Infrastructure and Engineering teams to embed security into daily development practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in product or application security, including threat modeling and security reviews in production environments.
• Strong ability to read and write code with a hands‑on mindset for building security tools and automation.
• Solid understanding of risk evaluation and the ability to communicate trade‑offs to non‑security engineers.
• Experience delivering security projects independently while collaborating with senior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills for translating security concepts to engineering teams.
• Familiarity with cloud, distributed systems or modern software architectures is a plus.
