Science Communication and Grants Coordinator

About the role

The Science Communication and Grants Coordinator will combine scientific enthusiasm with strong writing abilities to support the strategic communication and outreach agenda of VIB and its Center for Structural Biology. The role also assists in the preparation, follow‑up and reporting of large‑scale research funding projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an international communication plan that positions the Center as a leader, aligned with VIB’s overall strategy.
• Create high‑quality written and visual content for the website, social media, newsletters, marketing materials and press releases.
• Act as liaison between VIB HQ Communications, Center scientists and external stakeholders, translating scientific findings into accessible stories.
• Maintain and update the Center’s website and social media channels to broaden global reach.
• Identify funding opportunities, support grant writers, and ensure clear communication and illustration in proposals, especially EU and consortium grants.
• Assist Grant Coordinators with project meetings, outreach activities and reporting.
• Contribute to the development and rollout of VIB’s overall communications strategy.

Required profile

• Passion for science and ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.
• Excellent written English and strong editorial skills.
• Proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience in scientific outreach, public engagement or research communication.
• Familiarity with grant‑writing processes and European research funding schemes.
