Researcher Splendor (Chemical Engineering)

About the role

Ghent University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department EA11 (Materials, Textiles and Chemical Process Engineering), is looking for a researcher for the SPLENDOR project. The post is a contract of limited duration, with 100% occupancy and one position. About 70% of the work is academic research in chemistry and engineering, with up to 10% on scientific communication and project management and up to 10% on teaching and student coaching.

Key responsibilities

• Experimental determination of kinetic performance, including advanced characterisation techniques
• Kinetic modelling, reactor design and process analysis
• Lignin valorisation at supercritical operating conditions within the SPLENDOR project
• Scientific communication among project partners and project management
• Teaching assignments and coaching of master and PhD students

Required profile

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent by experience
• Previous experience with intrinsic kinetic data acquisition and advanced modelling beyond the master's thesis
• Expertise in set-ups for intrinsic kinetics data acquisition, especially heterogeneous catalysed reactions
• Proven track record of technical writing through scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals
• Presentations at international research symposia
• Excellent oral and written English and an international mindset and mobility
• Living in Belgium or ready to stay there during the research; mentoring experience is an advantage

What we offer

• Fixed-term contract of 1 year and 8 months starting 1 January 2027 (earlier start means a shorter term), ending 31 August 2028
• Remuneration on wage scale WM1 to WM4 (Master's) or PD1 to PD4 (doctorate)
