Post-doctoral Assistant, Department of Educational Sciences

About the role

Ghent University's Department of Educational Sciences (Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences) is looking for a post-doctoral assistant for a temporary appointment of 2.5 years, starting no earlier than 1 February 2027. The appointment is at 100% and is not renewable; it is based on the AAP salary scale.

Key responsibilities

• Devote 70% of your time to academic research in educational research, teacher education, professional development and language education, including fundraising in these areas.
• Assist with teaching in the Educational Sciences programme and/or the Master's in Primary Education as a primary or co-instructor; the course load is set with the department heads.
• Supervise doctoral students, internships, master's theses and act as a doctoral advisor and thesis examiner for master's theses.
• Contribute to internal and external services such as exam proctoring, information days, conferences and events with professionals in the field.

Required profile

• A doctoral degree in Educational Sciences by the start of the appointment; NARIC equivalence certificate required for degrees outside the EU.
• Promising researcher during doctoral studies, with experience in educational research (scientific and project-based) and service provision.
• Multiple peer-reviewed publications in international and national journals.
• Experience in securing and coordinating projects is a plus.
• Active participation in continuing education, conferences and workshops.
• Strong interest in academic teaching, with strong pedagogical, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Dutch and English, spoken and written.
