Researcher in focused ultrasound neuromodulation of peripheral nerves

About the role

The position involves designing a focused ultrasound (FUS) system for spatially selective activation of the vagus nerve, covering both non‑invasive transcutaneous and minimally invasive approaches. The research combines biophysical simulations, prototype development, and experimental validation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct simulations of FUS biophysics for vagus nerve stimulation.
• Develop and validate in‑vitro and in‑vivo experimental setups.
• Define requirements for a prototype FUS system, emphasizing steerability and low implementation complexity.
• Experimentally verify simulation predictions and compile a comprehensive set of system requirements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or thesis‑based doctorate in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics or a related field.
• Experience with simulations, prototyping, and proof‑of‑principle experiments for focused ultrasound applications.
• Ability to devise creative solutions beyond the state of the art.
