Regulatory & Litigation Counsel – Competition Defense

About the role

Google is seeking a senior Regulatory and Litigation Counsel to lead its competition defense efforts across EMEA. You will work on high‑impact legal matters, shaping strategy, managing investigations, and representing the company before regulators and courts.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute defense strategies for competition‑related investigations and litigation.
• Lead internal and external teams of counsel and economists in responding to regulatory inquiries, enforcement actions, and civil matters.
• Oversee the collection, production, and review of accurate information for external submissions and disclosures.
• Partner with business units to assess and manage regulatory risk.
• Represent Google in meetings with the European Commission, Member State Competition Authorities, and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• JD, LL.B., or equivalent degree; admitted to the bar in the UK or an EU member state and in good standing.
• At least 7 years of attorney‑level experience in government, in‑house, or law‑firm settings.
• Proven experience litigating competition issues before civil courts.
• Experience engaging with competition regulators, including the European Commission.
• Strong project‑management abilities and experience working with cross‑functional teams.
