Regulatory & Institutional Affairs Manager
Aerospacelab
Job description
About the role
Aerospacelab, a vertically integrated satellite manufacturer and provider of telecom and earth observation services, is hiring a Regulatory & Institutional Affairs Manager. The role covers two halves: regulatory matters such as authorisations, market access and space law across the jurisdictions where the company and its customers operate, and institutional work shaping rules in Brussels and representing the company with regulators, institutions and industry associations. It works daily with the legal, programme and business development teams and interacts directly with senior management.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain national authorisations for missions: operator licences, registration and insurance obligations under Belgian space law, and equivalent regimes in France, the US and other jurisdictions.
- Build market access intelligence: monitor landing rights, earth station and service authorisation regimes, handle market access matters in consortia, and support ITU filings.
- Advise programmes, bids and contracts on space law and national regulatory frameworks, including liability, registration, effective control, data distribution, licensing schedules and compliance clauses.
- Monitor the regulatory landscape (EU Space Act, Digital Networks Act, European Competitiveness Fund, space traffic management, debris mitigation, cybersecurity) and turn it into dated requirements for programme and engineering teams.
- Lead legislative and policy files: track the legislative cycle, draft position papers, amendments and consultation responses, and prepare briefing notes for management.
- Represent the company in industry associations and working groups (ASD-Eurospace, CSSMA, GSOA) and build relationships with regulators and institutions such as BELSPO, BIPT, the Belgian MoD, ESA, the European Commission, EUSPA and national delegations.
- Advocate directly with Belgian, French and EU policymakers and shape legislation and funding instruments in the company's interest.
- Support institutional business development with regulatory input to bids, customer discussions and letter-of-support requests, and prepare senior management for institutional meetings and delegation visits.
Required profile
- Master's degree in law, ideally space, telecommunications or EU law.
- 3+ years of experience in regulatory and/or institutional affairs in the space or telecom sector.
- Excellent drafting skills in English and professional capacity in French.
- Autonomy across legal, engineering and business teams.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with the EU/national space institutional landscape.
- Exposure to ITU processes and filings.
- Experience responding to public consultations and building policy positions.
- Additional EU languages.
What we offer
- Permanent contract.
- Flexible ways of working and a flat hierarchy in a fast-paced environment.
- Salary package consistent with experience.
