R&D Engineer – Medical Device Hardware & Firmware

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented R&D Engineer to design, develop, test and maintain the hardware and embedded firmware of our FDA‑cleared neurostimulation medical devices. The role works closely with software, mechanical, quality and regulatory teams to deliver safe, effective products.

Key responsibilities

• Design electronic hardware, create schematics, review PCB layouts and select components for medical‑grade neurostimulation devices.
• Develop, debug and optimise embedded firmware in C/C++ for ARM‑based microcontrollers.
• Plan and execute hardware verification and validation testing in line with IEC 62304, IEC 60601‑1 and related standards.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation for CE marking (EU MDR) and FDA 510(k) submissions, including design history files and risk analyses.
• Participate in design reviews, FMEA sessions and root‑cause analyses, and support manufacturing with hardware troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems or related field.
• 4–7 years of hardware development experience, at least 2 years in the medical‑device industry.
• Strong knowledge of medical‑device regulatory standards (IEC 62304, IEC 60601‑1, ISO 14971, ISO 13485).
• Fluent English; French or Dutch is a plus.

Required skills

• C/C++ programming for ARM microcontrollers.
• PCB design using Altium Designer, KiCad or equivalent.
• Analog and digital circuit design, signal processing and power‑management.
• Hardware verification, validation, EMC and environmental testing.
• Version control with Git and CI/CD pipelines for firmware.
