About the role

Mercor is seeking a Python Software Engineer to contribute to cutting‑edge AI research labs. This remote, contract position focuses on building and optimizing production‑grade Python systems that support foundational model training and evaluation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complex, production‑grade Python applications for real‑world AI environments.
• Design modular, testable codebases using modern Python tooling such as FastAPI and Pydantic.
• Profile and optimize performance, including memory management and runtime efficiency.
• Collaborate asynchronously with leading AI labs to improve model training pipelines and evaluation metrics.
• Deliver high‑quality code on schedule while working independently.

• Experience at top US technology firms.
• Proven track record delivering complex Python systems.
• Deep understanding of core Python language fundamentals.
• Hands‑on experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, and modern Python best practices.
