Professor of History of International Law (0.3 FTE)

About the role

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel seeks a professor to lead research and teaching in the History of International Law, contributing to the EUTOPIA Connected Learning Community and supervising graduate students.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise VUB participation in the EUTOPIA Connected Learning Community Legal History.
• Supervise and evaluate Master theses in Law and occasionally guest‑lecture in English.
• Conduct high‑quality research in the History of International Law, including publishing in peer‑reviewed journals and edited volumes.
• Manage internally and externally funded research projects, apply for external funding and organise seminars and conferences.
• Supervise PhD candidates and build a relevant scientific network.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Law with a strong publication and/or external funding record.
• Ambition to apply for an ERC Grant and experience with blended learning.
• Teaching experience or proven ability to work with a diverse, international student body.
• Ability to strengthen the Connected Learning Community Legal History within the EUTOPIA alliance.
• Commitment to the university’s vision of inclusive education.
