Prevention Advisor Level 2 (Biosafety Officer)

About the role

Labcorp is looking for an onsite Senior Prevention Advisor, Biosafety Officer, to join its new CMC facility and support its existing site in Mechelen, Belgium. The role leads EHS governance and culture, acts as the site's Internal Prevention Advisor, and coordinates biological safety and contained use activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead EHS governance and culture, advise employer, line management and the Prevention & Protection Committee, and coach teams to embed safe behaviours
• Maintain and improve the EHS management system (policies, procedures, KPIs, audits, management review, corrective actions) for the EOC and Laboratory facilities
• Act as Biosafety Coordinator for contained use: risk assessments, containment for BSL 2 activities, training, incident response, waste streams and dossier submissions to regional authorities
• Oversee GMO and pathogen lifecycle controls, including classification, notification, inventory, sample transfers, disinfection and transport of dangerous goods
• Own risk management topics such as machine and process safety, lock-out/tag-out, contractor control, hazardous energy, fire and life safety, and emergency preparedness
• Design and own industrial hygiene and ergonomics programmes, and oversee machinery safety and warehousing risks
• Ensure chemical safety (SDS, labeling, storage, CLP/REACH) and participate in incident investigations, CAPA tracking and hazardous chemical emergency response
• Assist in waste minimisation, provide first aid and CPR, and deliver EHS training
• Create and manage EHS and biological safety SOPs, policies and KPIs, and coordinate environmental permitting and compliance
• Plan inspections, host regulatory visits and prepare for on-call emergency response

Required profile

• BSc (Hons) scientific degree
• Belgian Level 2 Internal Prevention Advisor qualification
• 2+ years of experience in EHS, including developing or managing a safety programme for chemical, biological, radiation or equivalent fields
• Fluency in Dutch and English; ability to work independently and in a team, and to speak publicly
• Willingness to travel up to 5% and to wear PPE, including respiratory protection

Preferred qualifications

• Level 1 Internal Prevention Advisor qualification
• Experience in biological safety, Belgian wellbeing at work code (Codex) requirements, CLP/REACH duties, environmental permitting and laboratory EHS programmes
• Member of the European Biosafety Association
