PhD position on Photorealistic Digital Humans

About the role

We are looking for a PhD candidate to join the EAVISE research group at KU Leuven and work on photorealistic digital humans. The project investigates 3D Gaussian Splatting as an alternative to traditional mesh‑based pipelines, aiming to create a full‑body, animation‑ready representation of digital avatars.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct scientific research in machine learning and computer vision focused on 3D Gaussian Splatting.
• Design and implement a novel representation for photorealistic digital humans.
• Develop an integrated framework for full‑body, animation‑ready 3D Gaussian avatars.
• Test and evaluate the framework on real captured data.
• Supervise master‑thesis projects within the research domain.
• Provide teaching assistance in relevant courses.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong interest or knowledge in machine learning, computer vision and image processing.
• Research experience in computer vision (e.g., master thesis or internship) is a strong asset.
• Creative, proactive, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent academic record and willingness to prepare a personal funding application.
• Proficiency in English with good communication skills.
• Readiness to take on teaching responsibilities.
