PCB Technology Engineer
Aerospacelab
Job description
About the role
Aerospacelab, which designs and manufactures small satellites and develops earth observation services, is looking for a PCB Technology Engineer in Belgium. You will be the technical reference for printed circuit board fabrication and assembly across the company's avionics programs, bridging PCB/electronics designers and the manufacturing supply base so that boards are designed for manufacturability, reliably fabricated and assembled to space-grade quality.
Key responsibilities
- Act as main technical contact with PCB and assembly suppliers, covering stack-up definition, material selection, capability alignment and qualification of new suppliers
- Define, maintain and enforce Design for Manufacturability (DfM) rules such as trace/space, via structures, HDI/microvia strategy, controlled impedance and panelization
- Review PCB designs and Gerber/ODB++ files before release, flagging manufacturability, reliability or quality risks
- Recommend component assembly techniques (SMT, BGA/QFN reflow, press-fit connectors, wire bonding, conformal coating, staking/bonding) for space and high-reliability applications
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions on non-conformances with Quality Assurance and suppliers
- Define inspection and acceptance criteria (AOI, X-ray, cross-section analysis) and support incoming and in-process quality checks
- Contribute to internal standards, work instructions and lessons learned in line with IPC Class 3 requirements
- Support introduction of new technologies (embedded components, advanced connectors, high-density stacked assemblies) from feasibility through qualification
Required profile
- MSc in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent, or strong hands-on experience in PCB fabrication/assembly technology
- Solid understanding of PCB fabrication processes (materials, stack-ups, multilayer/HDI) and SMT/through-hole assembly
- Practical knowledge of DfM principles applied to real designs
- Ability to read PCB layouts, stack-ups and Gerbers and communicate findings clearly to designers and suppliers
- Comfortable negotiating and qualifying suppliers technically
- Good English; French is an advantage
Required skills
- Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC-6012)
- Nice to have: space-grade or high-reliability PCB experience, X-ray/AOI inspection and failure analysis, high-speed digital, RF or HDI designs, and qualifying new PCB/EMS suppliers
What we offer
- Permanent contract in the Sourcing & Supply Chain department
- Own career path, direct impact on company growth, flat hierarchy and fast-paced environment
- Flexible ways of working and a salary package consistent with experience
