Nematologist Scientist – Research & Development

About the role

We are seeking a talented, motivated, and inspiring Nematologist to join our Trait Research team at the R&D Innovation Center in Ghent, Belgium. In this role you will develop and execute research strategies aligned with business goals to commercialise innovative nematode‑resistant traits and germplasm.

Key responsibilities

• Propose innovative nematode trait concepts and develop research strategies using state‑of‑the‑art technologies and third‑party collaborations.
• Evaluate scientific progress with the project leader, make decisions to meet objectives and critical milestones, and optimise resource use.
• Design and oversee nematode control assays that support programme goals.
• Articulate clear, competitive testing schemes to ensure high‑quality trait delivery.
• Report scientific progress and new opportunities to stakeholders and mentor research teams.
• Collaborate with Intellectual Property colleagues to build proactive patenting and licensing strategies.

Required profile

• PhD in Nematology with 12‑15 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Internationally recognised innovator and leading authority in Plant Nematology with deep knowledge of GM trait development.
• Proven ability to provide innovative solutions for plant‑parasitic nematode issues and to bridge lab and field work.
• Strong leadership, team‑coaching skills and experience managing internal and external collaborations.
• Fluent in English.
