Nematologist Scientist – Research & Development

About the role

BASF is looking for a motivated Nematologist Scientist to join the Trait Research team at its Innovation Center in Ghent, Belgium. The role focuses on designing, creating and testing gene‑based solutions that provide nematode resistance for key crops such as soybean, oilseed rape, wheat and cotton.

Key responsibilities

• Propose innovative nematode‑trait concepts aligned with business objectives.
• Develop and implement nematode control research strategies using state‑of‑the‑art technologies.
• Collaborate with third‑party partners to ensure scientific competitiveness of the nematode program.
• Evaluate scientific progress of nematode control programs and adjust research plans accordingly.
• Contribute to the commercialization pathway of nematode‑resistant traits and germplasm.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in Nematology, Plant Pathology or related field.
• Demonstrated ability to lead independent research projects.
• Strong analytical mindset with a results‑oriented, entrepreneurial attitude.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
