Mechanical Technician (Technicien de maintenance)

About the role

The Data Center team designs, builds, and operates some of the most advanced mechanical and HVAC systems in the world. As a Mechanical Technician you will support the physical infrastructure of Google data centers, assisting senior technicians, reading schematics, and ensuring all systems run efficiently and safely.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain heating, cooling, water, power supply, generators, UPS, and electrical distribution systems.
• Inspect, repair, and troubleshoot piping, non‑critical electrical and mechanical components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and system diagrams.
• Conduct system tours and assess equipment condition.
• Develop and implement cost‑reduction and efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ergonomic standards.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime.

Required profile

• Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial setting.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lb and use safety platforms, ladders, and PPE.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations, or shifts.
• Preferred experience in data‑center, hospital, or power‑plant environments.

Required skills

• HVAC and mechanical system knowledge (chillers, air handling units, pumps, CRAC/CRAH units).
• Use of meters, sensors, digital metering, and calibration/diagnostic equipment.
• Blueprint and schematic reading.
• Communication with contractors and maintenance teams.
