Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical

About the role

Google’s Data Center team is seeking a Mechanical Facilities Technician to operate, monitor, and support the physical infrastructure of our data centers in Belgium. You will work on sophisticated HVAC and mechanical systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair data center mechanical components such as chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues using meters, sensors, digital metering, and diagnostic equipment.
• Develop and implement cost‑reduction and efficiency‑improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ergonomic standards.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize outage recovery time.
• Coordinate with external contractors for maintenance and upgrade projects.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial setting.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lb (23 kg) and use safety equipment such as harnesses and platforms.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations, and shift schedules.
• Preferred experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants and in maintaining cooling distribution systems.

Required skills

• Mechanical HVAC systems knowledge.
• Experience with chillers, air handling units, pumps, CRAC/CRAH units.
• Proficiency using meters, sensors, digital metering, calibration and diagnostic tools.
• Material handling and safe use of PPE.
