Mechanical Design Engineer – Airfield Lighting

About the role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will develop innovative airfield lighting products and mechanical systems, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization. You will work in a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver reliable, high‑quality solutions that meet FAA and ICAO regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Execute detailed mechanical and thermal design, from requirements specification to final product.
• Integrate light engine and electronics, managing mechanical and electrical interfaces.
• Create and maintain part and assembly drawings for suppliers and in‑house production.
• Perform static and dynamic stress simulations, thermal analysis, and failure investigations.
• Design and conduct verification and validation testing, support prototype builds and certification.
• Document product specifications, manuals and provide maintenance support throughout the lifecycle.
• Evaluate new technologies, materials and competitor products, and contribute to intellectual‑property disclosures.
• Provide technical support to supply chain, manufacturing, sales and customers.

Required profile

• 3+ years (mid‑level) or 8+ years (senior‑level) experience as a design engineer, preferably in a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience with aluminium castings, plastics, sheet metal and sealed enclosures.
• Fluency in English and Dutch or French; German is an asset.
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (≤10%).

Required skills

• Advanced 3D solid modelling with SolidWorks (SolidWorks PDM preferred).
• 2D drawing creation using AutoCAD.
• Static FEA and simulation tools (SolidWorks Simulation, thermal, fatigue, LightTools).
• Photometric data analysis and integration of electrical components.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
