Lifting Manager

About the role

Mercury, the European leader in construction solutions, is seeking a Lifting Manager for its Mons site in Belgium. The role is responsible for overseeing all crane and lifting activities on complex engineering projects, ensuring safety, compliance and efficient execution.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the duty holder for all crane and lifting operations, with authority to stop work if controls are inadequate.
• Establish, implement and maintain a site lifting management system in line with company procedures and relevant legislation (e.g., LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121).
• Plan, review, approve and control routine to critical lifting operations, ensuring lift plans, RAMS and drawings are fit for purpose.
• Select appropriate cranes, verify capability at required radius/height and confirm load data, lifting points and rigging methods.
• Assess crane standing, ground bearing arrangements and coordinate with temporary works where required.
• Manage crane mobilisation, erection, climbing/tie‑ins, alterations and dismantling, ensuring supplier method statements and permits are in place.
• Coordinate crane utilisation with construction sequencing, logistics and simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) involving other plant.
• Ensure riggers, slingers, crane operators and supervisors follow the approved safe system of work.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing crane and lifting operations on construction sites.
• Strong knowledge of relevant standards and legislation (LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121).
• Ability to produce and assess lift plans, risk assessments (RAMS) and technical drawings.
• Excellent coordination skills with construction teams, temporary works and other plant operators.
