Legal Counsel – Regulatory Strategy (Competition & Consumer)

About the role

Booking.com is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Regulatory Strategy team, focusing on competition and consumer law. The role works closely with product and business teams in Brussels and Amsterdam to ensure new features and services comply with evolving European regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assess complex product designs, including Generative AI initiatives, against competition, consumer protection, platform‑to‑business, geo‑pricing, DMA, DSA and related regulations.
• Drive the implementation of new regulatory requirements across the business.
• Gather and analyse input from internal stakeholders, coordinate with other legal groups and flag strategic decisions.
• Prepare and deliver recommendations to senior leadership, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives.
• Manage the legal budget for owned matters and oversee external counsel performance.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of competition law, consumer protection, AI and online platform regulations, including the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act.
• Experience in law firms, regulatory bodies or multinational corporations handling cross‑jurisdictional regulatory issues.
• Basic project‑management skills and solid commercial awareness.
• Proactive, creative mindset with the ability to assess risk trade‑offs.
• Excellent communication and influencing abilities, comfortable presenting to small groups and senior executives.

Required skills

• In‑depth understanding of European competition and consumer legislation.
• Familiarity with AI‑related regulatory frameworks for online platforms.
• Ability to translate legal requirements into actionable guidance for product and business teams.
