Legal Counsel – Competition & Digital Law (Brussels)

About the role

COMEOS, Belgium’s leading retail and trade federation, is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to lead its Competition Law function within the Public Affairs pillar. Based in Brussels, you will work autonomously, supporting members and the organisation as it undergoes a digital transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure compliance with Belgian competition regulations and advise internal stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the Belgian Competition Authority (BMA/ABC) and implement corrective action plans.
• Lead the rollout of digital tools and communication strategies for COMEOS members.
• Facilitate internal digital commissions and represent COMEOS in EU‑level digital policy forums.
• Provide ad‑hoc legal advice on GDPR, commercial law and other regulatory matters.

Required profile

• 5‑12 years of professional experience, with deep expertise in Competition Law (mandatory).
• Strong knowledge of EU Digital Law and GDPR is a plus.
• Trilingual proficiency (French, Dutch, English) – native French preferred.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑changing, transformative environment.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with Dutch‑speaking members and external authorities.

Required skills

• High‑level expertise in Competition Law.
• Familiarity with EU Digital Law frameworks.
• Understanding of GDPR compliance requirements.
