Legal Advisor – Supervision of Asset Management & Investment Products

About the role

Join the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) as a Legal Advisor in the Supervision of Asset Management, Savings Products and Bank Investment Products department. You will help increase public confidence in the financial sector and protect consumers by ensuring consistent supervisory practice.

Key responsibilities

• Handle applications for authorization and conduct ongoing supervision of management companies, portfolio managers and investment advice firms.
• Analyse business models, organisational structures, activities and services offered by supervised entities.
• Scrutinise quantitative reporting, collaborating with economists when needed.
• Perform thorough legal analysis of complex issues based on applicable laws and regulations.
• Prepare and potentially participate in inspections, monitoring outcomes together with the inspection team.
• Co‑operate with colleagues supervising public UCIs, conduct‑of‑business rules, perimeter supervision and data analytics.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law.
• At least three years of experience in the financial sector.
• Affinity for the business models of asset‑management and investment‑product companies.
• Strong analytical, organisational and synthesis abilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to present complex content clearly.
• Interest in finance challenges such as digitisation, fintech and big data.
• Ability to maintain professional contacts with industry players and defend positions.
• Adaptability, attentiveness to interpersonal relations and commitment to public‑interest tasks.
• Solid competence in Dutch and good command of French and English.
