Lab Technician – Nucleomics Core

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic lab technician to join the VIB Nucleomics Core, a cutting‑edge facility that provides next‑generation sequencing services to over 1,900 researchers. The role combines hands‑on molecular work with operation of automated liquid‑handling and sequencing instruments in a collaborative, international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine molecular biology workflows, including DNA/RNA quality control and library preparation for NGS.
• Set up and run sequencing experiments on Illumina (or other) platforms, and operate robotic liquid dispensers and arms.
• Document results, prepare technical reports and interpret data to support project conclusions.
• Maintain laboratory SOPs, safety standards and contribute to workflow optimisation.
• Collaborate with bioinformaticians and other technicians to ensure smooth project execution.

Required profile

• Degree in Biotechnological, Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Bachelor/Engineer) or equivalent experience.
• Practical knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques; experience with NGS library preparation or automation is a plus.
• Meticulous, proactive and results‑oriented with strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently, organise tasks and communicate effectively in English.
