IT Officer – Research Support & Systems

About the role

We are seeking a full-time IT Officer to join the local IT team at VIB’s Campus Gasthuisberg in Leuven. The role provides practical technical support to researchers and staff, handling day-to-day issues and driving service improvements in a scientific environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage onboarding and off-boarding of users and devices.
• Provide 2nd-line support for hardware, software and network problems.
• Support seminars and events by setting up and troubleshooting IT infrastructure.
• Oversee hardware lifecycle: procurement, deployment and asset tracking.
• Identify and implement improvements to IT services with a focus on user experience.
• Coordinate with KU Leuven ICTS, GBIOMED IT, VIB and external partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent experience.
• Strong interest in hardware and software systems and quick learning ability.
• Solution-oriented troubleshooting mindset and creative problem solving.
• Excellent customer service attitude and strong communication in Dutch and English.
• High sense of responsibility and attention to quality.

Required skills

• Windows, macOS and Linux (Ubuntu, Rocky Linux) client systems.
• Basic networking knowledge (IP, DNS, connectivity troubleshooting).
• Microsoft 365 suite, including Teams and SharePoint.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems, device-management or monitoring tools.
• Scripting basics in PowerShell, Python or Bash (optional).
