Government Affairs Director

About the role

Microsoft’s European Government Affairs team in Brussels is looking for a Political Affairs Director to lead engagement with the European Commission and Council. The role will shape strategic political counsel, facilitate senior‑level access, and advance relationships with key decision‑makers across the EU.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and analyse political developments, institutional dynamics and stakeholder positions within the European Commission, Parliament and Council.
• Provide political intelligence and strategic recommendations on legislative, regulatory and geopolitical issues affecting Microsoft’s business.
• Design and execute engagement plans targeting priority policymakers and influencers.
• Advise senior executives on messaging, protocol and briefing materials for high‑level meetings and events.
• Support coalition‑building, stakeholder profiling and the development of strategic messaging to promote digital resilience and technology sovereignty.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in European public policy, government affairs or related fields.
• Deep understanding of EU institutions, legislative processes and cross‑institutional dynamics.
• Proven track record of building trusted relationships with senior policymakers and political leaders.
• Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate political trends into business‑relevant advice.
