Full Stack Developer (Backend Focus)

About the role

POLITICO is looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer with a strong backend orientation to join its technology team in Brussels. The role is full‑time, hybrid (four days in the office, one remote), and focuses on building the data‑intensive services that power the POLITICO Pro platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs.
• Build and improve data processing pipelines, background jobs, and message‑queue systems.
• Contribute to frontend applications using modern JavaScript frameworks when needed.
• Work with cloud infrastructure, serverless architectures, and IaC tools.
• Participate in the evolution of AI‑enabled features such as Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and speech‑to‑text processing.

Required profile

• Strong experience building complex backend systems or multi‑service architectures.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals and system design skills.
• Comfortable working across the full stack and adapting to new technologies.
• Curiosity about AI integration, LLMs, and related technologies.

Required skills

• JavaScript (ES6+)
• Frontend frameworks: React or Vue
• Understanding of asynchronous systems: message queues, distributed services, background processing
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
• Familiarity with Kubernetes
• Knowledge of AI‑enabled applications: LLM integration, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation, speech recognition, transcription
• Additional assets: Java, React Native, Ruby on Rails
