Freelance Senior Accountant – Chief Accountant Role

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Accountant to act as Chief Accountant for a financially strong company undergoing a key transformation. This strategic, long‑term project offers immediate impact on financial performance and reporting quality.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of monthly, quarterly and yearly closings.
• Prepare and review VAT returns and tax declarations.
• Ensure accurate Belgian GAAP reporting (IFRS knowledge is a plus).
• Manage balance‑sheet reconciliations and profit & loss analysis.
• Support audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
• Optimize accounting processes and internal controls.
• Coach junior team members when needed.
• Contribute to finance transformation and ERP improvement projects.

Required profile

• 10+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Belgian GAAP.
• Experience in complex environments such as SMEs, scale‑ups or international groups.
• Hands‑on, autonomous, with a strong analytical mindset.
• Fluent in Dutch and proficient in English.
• Available immediately or on short notice.
