Freelance Legal Counsel – Business Partner (Belgium)

About the role

We are seeking a Freelance Legal Counsel to act as a Business Partner for a Belgian infrastructure client. The role supports multiple business units, primarily at sites in East and West Flanders, working closely with an operational director to provide pragmatic legal advice.

Key responsibilities

• Advise business units on a wide range of legal issues and manage complex cases across corporate, contract, employment and social law.
• Review, negotiate and draft contracts with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Oversee the onboarding and off‑boarding processes for subcontractors.
• Monitor national legislative developments and translate them into actionable guidance.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks, ensuring proper follow‑up of internal procedures.
• Support the Board of Directors and senior management during negotiations and help implement legal solutions.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (preferred).
• 5–7 years of relevant legal experience.
• Analytical, critical and accurate with a project‑oriented work style.
• Experience in construction or infrastructure sectors or a background at the bar is a plus.
• Fluent in Dutch and English; French is a bonus.

• Strong contract drafting, negotiation and risk‑management abilities.
• Ability to interpret and apply national legislation to business contexts.
• Clear communication and trust‑building skills.
