Director, Public Sector Banking – Europe

About the role

Citi is looking for a Director to lead its Public Sector Banking strategy across Europe. Based in Brussels, the role works closely with the Global Public Sector Head and senior country leaders to acquire new public‑sector clients and drive revenue across the full Citi product platform.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the European public‑sector banking strategy, meeting client acquisition and revenue targets.
• Build and maintain senior‑level relationships with ministries, central banks, sovereign wealth funds and other public institutions.
• Originate and close transactions across fixed income, structured finance, derivatives, FX, export and agency finance, and treasury services.
• Partner with product specialists to design commercially sound, scalable solutions for sovereign and institutional clients.
• Collaborate with risk partners to manage portfolio risk and optimise risk‑adjusted returns.
• Represent Citi at external forums as a subject‑matter expert on sovereign finance.
• Mentor junior bankers, enhancing their technical knowledge of public‑sector finance.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in corporate banking or development finance covering public‑sector clients.
• Established senior‑level network within the European public‑sector ecosystem.
• Proven ability to structure complex cross‑product transactions and meet revenue targets.
• Strong credit expertise, especially in sovereign and quasi‑sovereign credit assessment.
• Master’s degree, MBA or equivalent advanced qualification.
• Fluency in English; additional European languages are a plus.
