Communications Officer (Hybrid, Brussels)

About the role

BirdLife ECA is seeking a Communications Officer to support its Europe and Central Asia programme. Working from Brussels in a hybrid setting, you will help shape and deliver communications that raise the profile of bird conservation, influence policy, and engage a wide range of audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication plans for campaigns, policy moments and conservation priorities, including EU legislative processes.
• Create and manage content for media, website, newsletters, social media, photography, video, infographics and other multimedia assets.
• Maintain media relations and digital channels to increase visibility and audience engagement.
• Lead communications on assigned policy and conservation topics, translating complex issues into clear messages.
• Support national BirdLife partners with communication materials, tools and coordinated messaging.
• Coordinate communications for events, campaign launches and advocacy moments, using analytics to optimise outreach.
• Represent the communications function at meetings, workshops and partner gatherings across Europe.

Required profile

• Passion for nature conservation and experience in communications within an NGO or similar environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively with policy, science and advocacy teams.
• Proactive, hands‑on attitude and capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required skills

• Content creation for web, newsletters and social media.
• Media relations and press handling.
• Basic visual storytelling (photography, video, infographics).
