Backend Engineer – Data Management & Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to lead data management and engineering initiatives for our operations in Braine L'Alleud, Belgium. The role starts in July or August 2026 and requires NATO Secret clearance or equivalent. You will design, develop, and maintain complex data solutions that support business intelligence, data science, and visualisation needs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enforce data management policies, master data processes, and information handling procedures.
• Design, code, test, and refactor moderately complex programs and scripts following agreed standards.
• Investigate enterprise data requirements, create data models, and provide guidance on data structures.
• Build and maintain data pipelines that connect multiple data stores, applications, and organisations.
• Assess datasets for data‑science suitability, apply analytics techniques, and evaluate model performance.
• Support business‑intelligence reporting, identify digitisation opportunities, and enhance visualisation capabilities.

Required profile

• Possession of NATO Secret clearance or an equivalent security level.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience handling complex and ambiguous data requirements.
• Ability to work independently, monitor progress, and propose practical solutions to technical challenges.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
