Assistant in Data Analysis and Mathematical Modelling

About the role

The position combines a two‑year PhD programme in Bioscience Engineering (Mathematical Modelling) with teaching and departmental support duties within the Data Analysis and Mathematical Modelling department.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct PhD research on efficient data collection, integration and sample design, focusing on combining high‑quality data with large‑scale citizen‑science and satellite observations.
• Participate in teaching activities at bachelor’s and master’s level, including digital learning platforms, supervising practical sessions, student counselling and exam coordination.
• Assist with internal and external services of the department.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Bioscience Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistical Data Analysis, Physics, Bioinformatics or a related field, obtained before the start of the appointment.
• Interest in academic or project‑based research and service activities.
• Excellent teaching and communication skills in Dutch and English.

Required skills

• Statistical methods for data analysis and modelling.
• Knowledge of sample and experimental design, data integration techniques, and handling of biased or incomplete datasets.
