About the role
Grant Thornton Belgium is looking for a Supervisor VAT Consultant who combines solid VAT knowledge with a passion for guiding colleagues. You will stay hands‑on with client work while supporting the VAT team in a task‑oriented manner.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the key technical point of contact, supporting clients and ensuring the quality of the team’s output.
- Provide high‑quality VAT advice to national and international SMEs and mid‑size organisations.
- Lead complex VAT projects such as implementations, optimisations, regularisations and reviews.
- Handle Belgian and international VAT compliance, including preparation, review and follow‑up of VAT returns and filings.
- Support clients during VAT audits and inspections, liaising with tax authorities and managing follow‑up actions.
- Review junior consultants’ work and give clear, practical feedback.
- Coordinate daily tasks within engagements, meeting deadlines and quality standards without people‑management responsibility.
- Work autonomously on assignments while escalating issues to managers or partners when needed.
- Collaborate closely with the VAT team and other service lines.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in economics, law or a tax‑related field.
- Minimum 4 years of VAT experience, preferably in consulting or professional services.
- Strong technical understanding of Belgian VAT; international VAT exposure is a plus.
- Comfortable guiding and supporting junior colleagues in a task‑oriented way.
- Structured, accurate work style with ownership of assignments.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Clear communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
- Fluent in Dutch and English; French is a plus.
- Very good knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Power BI is a plus.
