Senior System Engineer/Architect (Freelance)

About the role

We are seeking a Freelance Senior Microsoft Systems Engineer/Architect to support a large‑scale infrastructure and digital transformation programme for an industrial client in West Flanders. The role involves designing, modernising and securing enterprise IT platforms while ensuring seamless integration with critical operational systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise infrastructure architectures based on Microsoft technologies.
• Define standards, governance frameworks and technology roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
• Lead cloud transformation and infrastructure modernisation initiatives, including Azure and hybrid environments.
• Integrate enterprise applications with operational systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Architect identity and access management, security, and endpoint management solutions.
• Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, vulnerability management and disaster recovery requirements.
• Act as trusted advisor to business and technical stakeholders, translating requirements into scalable solutions.
• Mentor technical teams and provide architectural guidance throughout project lifecycles.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in infrastructure engineering and systems architecture.
• Proven track record delivering large‑scale Microsoft‑based solutions.
• Strong communication, documentation and stakeholder management skills.
