Scientific Assistant in Anaesthesia and Analgesia (80% Fixed‑Term)

About the role
The Scientific Assistant will share responsibility for the Anaesthesia and Analgesia Service in the Small Animal Clinic, overseeing daily clinical activities and contributing to peri‑operative patient care for dogs and cats.
Key responsibilities
- Organise, implement and follow‑up sedation, anaesthesia and analgesia procedures for diagnostic and surgical cases.
- Develop and refine protocols for dogs and cats, ensuring patient safety and quality assurance.
- Supervise interns, students and residents in anaesthesia‑related techniques and skills labs.
- Participate in on‑call anaesthesia service and collaborate with other specialists on postoperative pain management.
- Contribute to clinical and practice‑oriented research and translate findings into clinical practice.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in veterinary medicine (EU equivalence required for non‑EU degrees).
- ECVAA or ACVAA Diplomate, or successful completion of a recognised residency in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.
- Teaching experience and active involvement in professional development.
- Strong interpersonal, organisational and leadership abilities.
- Fluent English; willingness to learn Dutch.
Required skills
- Sedation and anaesthesia techniques for dogs and cats.
- IV catheter placement, blood sampling, invasive blood pressure measurement.
- Anaesthetic monitoring, loco‑regional anaesthesia, total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA).
- Post‑operative monitoring and pain management.
What we offer
- 80% fixed‑term contract for one year, starting earliest 01/01/2027.
- Salary according to university WM1‑WM4 scale.
