Research Technician – Battery Materials & Energy

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Research Technician to join our Battery Materials & Energy Storage team in Ghislenghien. The role involves hands‑on work in lithium‑ion battery fabrication, testing and formulation support within a dynamic innovation centre.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate lithium‑ion cells in‑house and perform electrochemical performance testing.
• Collect, document and analyse performance data to guide product innovation.
• Assist in developing and optimising battery formulations and chemistries.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure functionality and compliance with quality standards.
• Organise, track and replenish laboratory consumables and chemicals.
• Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and testing methods.
• Follow SOPs and uphold a safe, well‑documented laboratory environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical engineering or materials science.
• 1–3 years of research or R&D laboratory experience.
• Hands‑on experience with controlled‑atmosphere equipment such as a glovebox.
• Knowledge of handling hazardous chemicals (powders, nanomaterials, organics, acids/bases).
• Prior experience in the EV battery or energy‑storage industry is a plus.

Required skills

• Glovebox operation and controlled‑atmosphere handling.
• Handling of hazardous chemicals and nanomaterials.
• Material characterisation techniques: conductivity measurement, BET surface area, TGA, OAN, pycnometry, particle‑size analysis.
• Electrochemical testing of lithium‑ion cells.
