Research Associate – Canada‑EU Relations

About the role

Tessera Research Collective is seeking part‑time Research Associates to deepen analysis of Canada‑EU political, security, economic and institutional relations. The position is remote, 5 hours per week, for an initial six‑month term with the possibility of renewal. Associates will also contribute to the launch of a new think‑tank slated for this fall.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct focused research on Canada‑EU cooperation in security, defence, trade, critical minerals, technology and the broader trans‑Atlantic agenda.
• Perform literature reviews, monitor policy developments, and gather qualitative and quantitative data.
• Produce approximately one published, bylined piece per month (policy brief, analysis or op‑ed).
• Draft research briefs, reports and policy‑oriented publications.
• Collaborate with collective members on joint projects and the think‑tank design.
• Participate in a weekly one‑hour team meeting.
• Assist with grant proposals and engage with academic and policy stakeholders as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of professional experience in international relations, foreign policy, security/defence, trade or a related field, or graduate‑level study in a relevant discipline.
• Strong research and analytical abilities with a demonstrated interest in Canada‑EU or trans‑Atlantic affairs.
• Excellent policy‑oriented writing in English; proficiency in French or another European language is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, part‑time setting and meet deadlines.
• Experience engaging with academic, policy or civil‑society communities.
