Procurement Officer – Direct Buyer of Mechanical Components

About the role
We are seeking a proactive Direct Buyer to lead the sourcing and procurement of mechanical components and assemblies for advanced industrial equipment. The role works closely with Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams to ensure timely, high‑quality, and cost‑effective supply.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned mechanical commodities.
- Identify, evaluate and qualify new suppliers meeting technical, quality, cost and delivery criteria.
- Prepare and manage RFQs, analyse proposals and lead commercial and contractual negotiations.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships and monitor performance through KPIs.
- Collaborate with Engineering and R&D on design‑for‑procurement and supplier involvement.
- Support supplier selection based on drawings, specifications, manufacturing capabilities and total cost of ownership.
- Work with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing to resolve quality or delivery issues.
- Identify supply risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Drive cost‑optimization initiatives such as value analysis, design‑to‑cost and supplier innovation.
- Monitor market trends and new sourcing opportunities while ensuring compliance with procurement policies.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related technical field.
- Minimum 3 years of direct procurement experience in a manufacturing or high‑tech industrial environment.
- Proven experience sourcing mechanical parts, machined components, sheet metal, fabricated assemblies or electromechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong negotiation and analytical abilities with a focus on supplier relationship management.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
Required skills
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP or equivalent).
- Advanced use of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, casting, welding, sheet‑metal fabrication and surface treatments.
- Understanding of supplier quality processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
