Principal Engineer – Technical Safety (ATLAS Project)

About the role

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead technical safety on the ATLAS capacity‑expansion project at its Geel site. You will act as the single point of contact for all safety‑related matters, ensuring that safety is embedded from design through delivery for new reactors, centrifuges, dryers and supporting utilities.

Key responsibilities

• Translate functional safety, ATEX, PED and other regulatory requirements into clear design expectations for internal teams and external engineering partners.
• Guide and challenge external contractors, coordinating with maintenance, operations and EHS stakeholders to achieve compliant solutions.
• Own the technical safety knowledge base for the project, providing advice, risk identification and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to the Geel GET Technical Safety team and the site Process Safety Management core team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in technical safety within the pharmaceutical, chemical or process industry.
• Ability to make well‑reasoned safety decisions and communicate rationale to multidisciplinary teams.
