Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Surgical Planning for Partial Nephrectomy

About the role

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team at Ghent University to develop and valorise a digital surgical planning platform for partial‑nephrectomy procedures. The role combines algorithmic research, clinical data analysis, and technology transfer activities.

Key responsibilities

• Increase robustness of surgical planning algorithms and integrate computational optimisation for commercial use.
• Analyse clinical data from multicentre trials and work towards regulatory alignment of the software.
• Support software development in line with medical‑device standards and integrate surgical complexity predictions.
• Interact with clinical and industrial partners, supervise students, and present results at international conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Health Sciences or a closely related field.
• Strong interdisciplinary experience collaborating with engineers and clinicians.
• Proven track record in medical image analysis, computational modelling, AI/ML, and scientific software development.
• Experience with technology transfer, multicentre clinical trials, and regulated software development is an asset.

• Fixed‑term contract for 18 months (starting 1 Nov 2026 at the earliest).
