Postdoctoral Researcher in AI for Health Risk Prediction

About the role

The Faculty of Engineering at Vrije Universiteit Brussel seeks a full‑time postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary team at the intersection of artificial intelligence, biomedical data science, digital health, epidemiology and environmental health. The role focuses on developing, validating and interpreting AI models for health risk prediction using heterogeneous and longitudinal data sources.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement machine‑learning models for patient‑level prediction of disease progression, deterioration and hospitalisation.
• Develop population‑level models linking environmental exposures to health outcomes.
• Ensure models are interpretable and incorporate uncertainty quantification.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists and public‑health experts.
• Publish research findings in high‑impact journals and present at international conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in computer science, biomedical engineering, epidemiology, medical informatics or a closely related discipline.
• Strong research background in machine learning applied to health or biomedical data.
• Experience with longitudinal and heterogeneous data sets.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, international environment.
