About the role

The position is a 70% part‑time post‑doctoral assistant appointment (3 years, renewable) within the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering. The role combines academic research, teaching support and student supervision.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct academic research, focusing on DFT calculations, kinetic and reactor modelling, and transport phenomena.
  • Assist teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level and supervise Master’s and doctoral students.
  • Develop and apply machine‑learning techniques for reaction modelling and structure‑property relationships.

Required profile

  • Doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) obtained before the start date.
  • Research experience in first‑principles reaction modelling, kinetic/reaction modelling, transport phenomena or thermodynamics.
  • Proven publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch, willing to relocate to Belgium if needed.

Required skills

  • Programming in Python, Fortran and Visual Basic.
  • Experience with machine‑learning libraries such as scikit‑learn, Keras and TensorFlow.
  • Ability to perform DFT calculations and kinetic modelling of heterogeneous catalysis.

What we offer

  • Fixed‑term 70% appointment (3 years) with the possibility of a second term.
  • Full‑time equivalent position (30% funded by department budget).
