PhD Position in Neuroimmunology

About the role

The VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology, in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences, is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholar in Neuroimmunology. The position is based in the Emanuela Pasciuto Lab and the Sarah Weckhuysen Lab, at Campus Drie Eiken, and starts in February 2027. The scholarship covers one year and can be renewed for three more years after a positive evaluation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and defend a PhD thesis in Biomedical Sciences, drawing up a research plan and methods with your supervisor(s).
• Conduct research efficiently and to an appropriate standard, reporting progress to supervisors and committees.
• Work with human samples and animal models of disease, and present your research at scientific conferences.
• Defend your thesis publicly and aim for publication in scientific journals.
• Contribute to existing research projects and compete for internal or external predoctoral funding.

Required profile

• Master's degree in biomedical sciences, biotechnology or a related discipline, obtained on or after 1 February 2026.
• Eligible to apply for a FWO fellowship.
• Excellent study results and a solid background in immunology and/or genetics are an advantage.
• FELASA-B certificate and confidence working with rodents.
• Good spoken and written English.
